Bringing home a Malamute puppy is exciting—but are you truly prepared? Here’s everything you need to know before the big day. 🐾

What to Expect in the First Week Home

Your new Malamute pup will be full of curiosity, energy, and yes—plenty of naps. The first week is about bonding, creating routine, and gently introducing them to their new environment. Expect some whining, some accidents, and a whole lot of cuddles. Patience and structure will go a long way!

Malamute Puppy Starter Pack: Must-Have Supplies

Here’s what should be waiting for your puppy when they arrive:

✅ Crate (large enough to grow into, ideally with a divider)

✅ High-quality large-breed puppy food (we’ll tell you which one we use)

✅ Leash & collar

✅ Name tag + microchip ID

✅ Water & food bowls (stainless steel preferred)

✅ Durable chew toys (Malamutes are strong chewers!)

✅ Poop bags + cleaner for accidents

✅ Brushes & grooming tools

✅ Puppy-safe wipes or shampoo

How to Puppy-Proof Your Space

Malamutes are smart, stubborn, and born explorers. Secure electrical cords, keep small items off the floor, install baby gates, and avoid anything chewable at nose level. Don’t underestimate their ability to open doors—or even cabinets!

Crate Training & Early Routines

Malamutes thrive on consistency. Use the crate as a safe space, not a punishment. Encourage naps and overnight sleep in the crate, and gradually increase time spent alone to help prevent separation anxiety.

✅ Stick to short training sessions (5–10 mins)

✅ Use praise-based rewards (they’re independent—not food-driven!)

Feeding & Grooming 101

🦴 Feeding:We recommend 3 small meals per day until 12 weeks, then transition to 2 meals/day. Always provide fresh water.

🧼 Grooming:Your Malamute will shed. A lot. Brush 2–3 times per week to keep that double coat healthy and your home cleaner. We’ll send you home with our recommended brush type and grooming tips.
